Nurmagomedov saw off McGregor’s challenge as he retained the title with a dominant fourth-round submission win at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
But a huge brawl ensued moments after Nurmagomedov clinched victory as the Russian MMA fighter scaled the fence to attack a member of McGregor’s team, while two Nurmagomedov team members reportedly lashed out at the Irishman in the cage.
Speaking at a press conference after the fight, Nurmagomedov said: “Sorry to the Nevada athletic commission, sorry to Las Vegas.
“I know this is not my best side.”
When asked about what sparked the post-fight commotion, he said defiantly: “People are talking about how I jumped over the cage.
“I’m a human, he talked about my religion, my country, my father, he almost killed a couple of people, what about this s***.”
UFC boss Dana White initially refused to present Nurmagomedov with his victory belt, citing the toxic atmosphere.
But Nurmagomedov was reunited with his strap at the press conference as he railed against McGregor’s historical misconduct.
The lead up to the fight had seen tensions sky-rocket between the two men, with McGregor frequently taunting the Russian fighter in typically bellicose fashion, even aiming a kick at him in the final face-off on Friday.
McGregor also attempted to thrust a glass of his own brand of whiskey into Nurmagomedov’s face during a pre-fight press call.
But Nurmagomedov, who is a practising Muslim, remained calm during the provocation and simply replied: “I don’t drink.”
McGregor launched an astonishing tirade against Nurmagomedov's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, on Thursday, accusing him of being a “f****** snitch, terrorist rat”.
